"Trabajando Unidas" ["Working Together"] Community Bank

Lucia, like all mothers, is very hard-working. Years ago, when her children were small, she worked hard to give them the best that she could- to give them an education and comforts. She sold food near her home, and would go to the market every day to look for items for her daily menu. Now, she sells food, as well as chickens that she raises in the second floor of her home. She sells them on order to her customers and acquaintances. She is requesting this loan for the wholesale purchase of basic materials, and with her savings she will be able to buy food for her chickens.

Lucia belongs to the "Trabajando Unidas" ["Working Together"] community bank. They are responsible people, all of whom know each other since they have been neighbours for several years. Each one has given the best of herself to her family, and the majority of them dream of seeing their children grow up and having long-lasting and profitable businesses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
