Maricel B. is from the village of Diamantina, Cabatuan, Isabela. She is 34 years old. Maricel is married and has three school-aged children.
To make a living, Maricel prepares and sells cooked food for daily meals. Maricel has been engaged in her business for over two years and earns approximately 5,000 PHP a month.
In 2009, Maricel joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. Maricel has successfully repaid a previous loan of 11,000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase additional ingredients to cook more dishes to sell.
Maricel is requesting a new loan of 15,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase additional ingredients to cook more dishes to sell. This will be the fifth loan taken out by Maricel from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan to improve and expand her business.
ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 38 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
