Señor Edwin lives in the cemetery zone. He lives with relatives and works in the minibus line. He works Monday through Saturday and on Sundays he spends time with his family, his favorite thing to do. He will use the loan for home renovations since he has lived with his family for several years in this house. He has two children that are attending school and one of them will graduate high school this year. He is very proud of his children. His wife sells api [a beverage made from corn] with pastries at night in front of the church in their area. His dream is to put together enough money to buy a piece of land and to have his own house to make his family more comfortable. He is a very hard-working and responsible person and is grateful to the institution for their support.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
