Las Escogidas 4 Group
In this Group: Angeli, Marta, Ortida, Mari, Anita
Angeli is the coordinator of her group, Las Escogidas 4, and her story is representative of both her group and Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients in general. Her group is located in the rural area of San Pedro de MacorĂs, surrounded by sugar cane fields where there is no potable running water and electricity is unreliable. She makes her home in a simple structure with her long-term partner and their two children.

Angeli is excited to be taking her fifth loan with Esperanza, almost three years after she started doing business and taking out loans. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business. She sells miscellaneous products such as cosmetics, beauty items, shoes, clothing, etc. She will use her profits to start rebuilding her house as a safer structure. Her most difficult challenge is living in her community. She likes to work and her future plans include attending church. She thanks all of you for your support.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
