The "Las Lomas" ("The Hills") community group is starting its first loan at the Los Andes regional office. This group consists of 10 members, and the board of directors has Elizabeth as president, Marisol as treasurer and Ximena as secretary. The members make a living in different industries, including commerce, production and service, for example: sewing jackets and backpacks; crafting rugs; selling rugs; selling food; weaving sweaters; working as a construction assistant; and selling potatoes and potato flour. The president, Elizabeth, is a young woman of 31, married and has three children. This is her first experience with group loans. For a number of years, she has made a living sewing backpacks and jackets. She learned the business by working alongside her husband. She buys her materials in the city of La Paz at wholesale and sells the finished products out of her home. This work helps her family. She plans to use the loan she is requesting to purchase cotton ribbon so she can improve the products she sells. When we asked her what she liked most about Kiva partner Pro Mujer, Elizabeth responded, "Everything."

La Asociación Comunal ”LAS LOMAS”, está iniciando su primer ciclo en el Centro Focal de Los Andes. Esta asociación comunal cuenta con la participación de diez integrantes. La mesa directiva tiene como presidenta a la señora Elizabeth, como tesorera a la señora Marisol y como secretaria de actas a la señora Ximena. Las asociadas cuentan con diversos, entre ellos tenemos comercio, producción y servicio: confección de chamarras y mochilas, artesanía de alfombras, venta de alfombras, venta de comida, tejido de chompas, ayudante de albañil, venta de papa y chuño.
La presidenta, la señora Elizabeth es una mujer joven de 31 años de edad, casada, madre de tres hijos. Esta es su primera experiencia en el trabajo con asociaciones comunales.
Desde hace varios años su negocio consiste en la confección de mochilas y chamarras, trabajando con su esposo aprendió a realizar el negocio de elaboración de mochilas y chamarras. El material utilizado es comprado de la Ciudad de La Paz, por mayor y los productos terminados los vende desde su casa. Para este trabajo le ayuda la familia. Con el monto de crédito solicitado piensa comprar “tapa costuras” y con ello mejorar el acabado de los productos que vende.
Cuando le consultamos qué es lo que más le gusta de Pro Mujer, la señora Elizabeth responde todo”.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
