Cheruiyot is 33 years old and married with five children between 1 month and 9 years old. He has been practicing farming in his home area in Litein Town, South Rift Kenya where he lives with his family. He sells milk and tea in the local market.
Cheruiyot is requesting a loan of 70,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, a Kiva partner, to purchase a dairy cow. He believes the loan will change his farming tremendously in terms of income generation. He previously took out a loan for 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, which he repaid on time.
Cheruiyot wishes he had a bigger parcel of land to grow animal feeds and reduce his costs. He believes this would increase his farming income.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
