Zenah is 55 years old and has been in mixed farming for over five years. She is married, with six children. They are all adults except one, aged sixteen. Zenah's maize, eggs, milk and beans are sold in the local market. She earns additional income from her teaching employment.
Zenah has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a 3,000 litre-capacity water tank and bird sprayer. She believes that water security and a routine spraying of the poultry will ensure their survival. That should improve her income, which will enable her to educate her children. She is also planning to purchase a motorcycle to transport her supply of eggs and milk to the market.
Zenah notes that there is lack of proper markets for her produce. However, she is full of appreciation for Juhudi's loan services.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
