Jorge is a member of the communal bank “Quimey,” which is made up of 22 entrepreneurs. They work in the areas of handicrafts, confections, making business cards, hair dressing and trade, specifically selling clothing, jewlery and perfumes. They all live in the city of Villarrica.
In the photo, Jorge is on the left side of the second row. He is standing and wearing a white t-shirt. He makes his living selling second-hand men's women's and children's clothing. For the last two years he has worked out of this garage. He sells his merchandise three days a week, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. During the rest of the week, he repairs furniture, sells handbags and is preparing to start a new business chopping firewood. Because Villarica is a tourist area, which is favorable, Jorge rents his house to toursits during the two months of the summer season (January and February). He makes more money from the rental than from his businesses. With this loan, Jorge will purchase second-hand household linens in the city of Santiago, specifically sheets and curtains.
Jorge worked for 20 years in commerce, running a distribution company. Regretably, his business went bankrupt. Nevertheless, in spite of that bad experience, his dream is to once again have a confections distribution company, which would afford him job stability. Consequently, he is motivated to continue with his businesses, since that is the way to obtain the greatest earnings and have a better quality of life.
Jorge lives with his wife and his 22 year-old daughter.
He is very grateful to Fondo Esperanza. He really enjoys participating in the meetings, especially because he is the president of the communal bank and the leader of the entrepreneurs, who he supports and advises.
With regard to the financing he is receiving from Fondo Esperanza, it will be a great support to his business. He will be able to invest more and increase his earnings.
Villarrica is a city in the south of Chile located in the Araucanía Region. It is a small city but offers all the basic and tourist services. It is one of the principal service centers in the mountain area and a prinicpal tourist center of the region, along with Pucón. During the summer months, there are numerous activities and cultural, artistic and sporting events. In addition, there are countless options for Eco-tourism, Adventure Tourism and Ethno-tourism.

Jorge forma parte D. banco comunal “Quimey” conformado por 22 emprendedores, que se desempeñan en los rubros de artesanía, repostería, confección de tarjetas de visita, peluquería y comercio, específicamente venta de ropa, joyas y perfumes. Pertenecientes a la ciudad de Villarrica.
Jorge quién en la foto aparece en segunda fila, al lado izquierdo, se encuentra de pie y viste polera blanca. Se dedica a la venta de ropa usada para niños, mujeres y varones. Él trabaja en el garaje de su casa desde hace 2 años y vende sus artículos tres veces a la semana correspondientes a los días jueves, viernes y sábados. Los días restantes de la semana, se dedica a reparar muebles, vender bolsos y está preparando un nuevo negocio que es la Picaduría de leña. Durante la temporada de verano Jorge arrienda su casa a turistas, por dos meses (enero y febrero), ya que recibe más ingresos que su mismo negocio, Villarrica es una zona turística, lo que es favorable. Con éste préstamo comprará ropa usada de casa en la ciudad de Santiago, específicamente; sábanas y cortinas.
Jorge trabajó durante 20 años en el rubro D. comercio teniendo a su poder una distribuidora, pero lamentablemente su negocio quebró, sin embargo a pesar de ésta mala experiencia, su sueño es volver a tener una distribuidora de confites, que le permitan mantener una estabilidad laboral. Por ende sus motivaciones de continuar en el negocio, ya que de esta manera obtendría mayores ingresos que le permitirían tener una mejor calidad de vida.
Jorge vive con su esposa y su hija de 22 años.
El está muy agradecido de Fondo Esperanza le gusta mucho participar de las reuniones, sobretodo porque él es presidente y líder D. grupo de emprendedores, los apoya y aconseja.
En cuanto al financiamiento que recibe por medio de Fondo Esperanza, éste será un gran aporte para su negocio, ya que con este podrá invertir más y aumentar sus ingresos.
Villarrica es una ciudad al sur de Chile, ubicada en la región de La Araucanía. Es una ciudad pequeña, pero cuenta con todos los servicios básicos y turísticos, siendo uno de los principales centros de servicios D. área cordillerana y principal centro turístico de la región, junto con Pucón. Durante los meses de verano se realizan numerosas actividades y eventos culturales, artísticos y deportivos, Además de las innumerables alternativas de Ecoturismo, Turismo Aventura y Etnoturismo.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
