The “LAS 7 ALPAQUITAS” (The 7 Little Alpacas) communal bank will start its fourth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the German Busch Focal Center. It has 8 members led by a governing board chaired by Juana, President.

Juana indicates that she’s worked with Pro Mujer for two cycles and on this occasion has the position of President of the Las 7 Alpaquitas communal bank. She tells us that her business is based on the sale of lamb meat and sometimes cheese; she started it a year ago. With the loan she’s asking for now she will buy meat that she’ll then sell on 7th Street in the 12 de October zone. She currently does not have a fixed sales stand so has to look for available space daily. Juana is single and she supports her 21 years old daughter with the business she has.

With respect to the other group members, we can say that they are in a variety of businesses, like: sale of doors and furniture, skirt sales, skirt making, shoe sales, tomato sales, fruit sales and CD sales.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
