Calixta is a special loan client with Esperanza and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients, many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti, generally. She lives in the town of Hato Mayor, an agricultural town where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure with her husband, where they raised three children.
Calixta is excited to be taking her 8th loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loans and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her vegetables and fruit stall by purchasing potatoes, plantains, salad ingredients, and a lot of tropical fruit. She has had her business for around six years, after she received her first loan of $700 US. She enjoys working and taking care of her house. Her future plan is to become a successful businesswoman with an improved business. She will use the profit to save for her future. She thanks you all for your support.
