The “REINAS TRIUNFADORAS” (Triumphant Queens) communal bank will start a new process in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center. It has nine members led by a governing board chaired by the President, Angélica. She mentions that this is her first cycle with the “Reinas Triunfadoras” communal bank but she worked four cycles in the Alto Lima Focal Center.

She tells us that she currently has a “ropasicos” (pearls on fabric) business but will use the loan she’s taking out now to open another business consisting in knitting “chambritas” (infant sweaters) that will be sold in the city of El Alto’s 16 de Julio market. This work will help her contribute to her family’s support a bit more since she’s married and has three children.

When she was asked what she likes about Pro Mujer she answered that she likes the required savings and that she’s motivated to continue forward.

With respect to the members of the association, we can state that they are running a variety of businesses, such as: neighborhood store, grocery store, blanket weaving, blanket manufacturing, candy sales, vegetables sales, food sales and sportswear merchandising.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
