She's been running this business for three years. Around 2009, she received her first loan from Kiva's partner, Hekima MFI, in order to bolster her capital. This new loan will be used to buy new supplies ("Omo" soap, beauty milk, shoes, saucepans, suitcases, clothing, "Nido" milk, sardines, etc.). Furthermore, she ambitions to ensure the future of her business and build houses to rent.

Salamu W. thanks Hekima for its actions targeting poor women who do not get access to loans from regular banks. The Mufariji group comprises 15 members.

Salamu W. est entrepreneur, leader du groupe d’affaire Mufariji, âgée de 31 ans, mariée, mère de 3 enfants. Son conjoint est un petit commerçant. La cliente Salamu W. fait également le petit commerce de divers. Elle s’entraide avec son mari dans les affaires. Ils ont un magasin dans le centre commercial de Birere - Ville de Goma. Il ya 3 ans qu’elle exerce cette activité. Vers 2009, elle bénéficia de premier crédit de l’IMF Hekima pour renforcer son capital. HEKIMA is a microfinance institution headquartered in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with branch offices in Goma and Bukavu. HEKIMA aims to contribute to the transformation of the economic, social, and spiritual lives of the economically active poor of the DRC. To this end, HEKIMA provides its clients with solidarity group loans to support income-generating activities. Despite ongoing instability and violence in its operating areas, HEKIMA continues to keep its doors open and provide credit and savings services for its over 90% female clientele.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
