Innocent N. is a motorbike taxi driver and member of the IN. group. He joined ACB in 2009. He is 36 years old and was born in Burundi. He is married with a 1-year-old child, and has another person in his care. He completed six years of primary school.

This is his second loan cycle with ACB, and the previous loan has been fully repaid. He will use this loan to buy two motorcycles for his group. His growth strategy is to repay this loan, and seek additional loans in order to expand his activity. He wants to develop his business and become a motor car taxi driver. He wants to ensure his family’s well-being and pay for his child’s tuition, his other activities, and his rent.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
