Irene has been practicing mixed farming for the past 14 years in the town of Kitale, in western Kenya. Her main products are maize, beans and milk, which are all sold locally. She also earns income from the sale of timber at the local market.
She has requested for a loan of 50,000 KES, through Juhudi Kilimo, to purchase a motorcycle for transporting milk to the market. The proceeds from this loan will help in the education of her children and to provide for the basic needs of her family. She hopes to acquire a pick-up in the future. This will assist in the transportation of her products to the market.
Irene is 37 years old, married, and has 4 children. Three of her children are currently attending school.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
