The Bolivia village bank is in its 13 phase and is maD. up of 10 partners. Most of the partners live in the Pampahasi area which is located close to the Emprender office. The partners sell varoius products such as clothing, wallets, cosmetics, food, etc. In the prior phase, all of the members paid back their debt except for 2 who paid with their savings. Yolanda has become the new president of the group; she has sold fish in the area for the past 10 years. The loan will be used to increase their working capital, buying more products for them to sell. Yolanda is married to Nestor with whom she has 3 children. When she started working with Emprender, the walls of her home were about to fall down, but with the loans she received, she was able to fix her home and she is grateful for that.

She was elected president because she has shown responsibility in the group as both the treasurer and a group member.

Nadia has been elected treasurer; she works making and selling clothing. She will use the loan to increase her working capital. She is single but has a son; she lives with her relatives in the Pampahasi area. Her goal is to run her own small business and become a wholesaler.

Juan was also elected treasurer and is a very responsible person; he helps his mother with the household expenses. He works driving the car that his mother owns. He will use money from the loan to do maintenance on the car.

All the group members are very responsible people who work hard; many of them are the only source of income for their families. They are grateful for the support they are receiving.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
