Sandra feels very happy for finally obtaining what she always longed for: her own business. Her sister encouraged her to fulfill her dreams after seeing her work informally selling items in the streets which forced her to leave her children and run the risk of working in the streets. They began making the arrangement to run a small store out of their own home; they offer all types of clothing and accessories for men, women and children. Due to the variety of goods they offer and the good prices, they have earned a loyal clientele and they hope to continue growing. Right now, the school year is beginning so she needs this loan to buy school uniforms like sweaters, shirts, blouses, socks, pants and skirts. In the future, she would like to begin selling shoes. Thanks to the earnings from her store, she helps to pay for the household expenses. She belongs to and is the secretary of the Las Exitosas group, made up of 7 women.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
