Deysi is a single mother of a small child. Her work is paramount to her because, being alone, she has to support her child and cover all expenses. This means that, despite being just 19 years old, she has acquired many responsibilities like having to care for her siblings due to her parents’ separation. Her father is a clothes maker and left her the workshop so that she can work it making all kinds of women’s clothes. She also does silk screening on polo shirts. All the merchandise she produces is sent to Chiclayo where her father sells it. During these months sales are good because the school year is starting and orders for uniforms and sweat shirts increase which is precisely what she will use the loan for: to boy fabric to manufacture sweatshirts. She is a member of the “TRABAJANDO EN ARMONIA” (Working in Harmony) group where she has the position of Secretary.

She wants to accomplish lots of projects with the business she runs but first she wants to finish her Design and Silk Screening courses to put into practice what she’s learned thus making her business into a large firm.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
