View original language description ↓
Rosa is a artisan. Her entire family -parents, brothers and sisters, and children- is involved in this activity. They sell their products for wholesale or retail in Zincantan or Nachij. They also rent a stand in the city of Ocozocuautla and pay someone to attend to that business. Every 20 days she travels to where their stand is and brings more goods to sell. They make napkins, tablecloths, shawls, blouses and pillowcases. The rest of the members of the group also make embroidered clothing which they sell to tourists. Maria M. is the only one who devotes her time to the purchase of seed and cultivation of flowers, in particular, roses. She rents a stand in the city of Tuxtla where she sells her flowers and makes floral arrangements for different events.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
