Redempter is a farmer from Kitale town in western Kenya, where she has been farming for nine years now. Her mixed farm is currently producing milk that is sold to the local market. She is also employed as a casual laborer in a local hospital.
Redempter is 46 years old and married. She has 4 school-aged children who all attend school.
She has requested for a loan of KES 60,000, through Juhudi Kilimo, for poultry farming. The proceeds from this loan will assist in the education of her children in college and high schools. She says that her major challenge has been lack of stable market for milk. She however plans to rear over 500 chickens and acquire 4 quality dairy cows in the next 5 years.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
