Kirui is a dairy farmer from the town of Litein in Rift Valley, Kenya, where he has been farming for eight years. He sells his milk to a local cooling plant. He also earns income selling eggs at the local market. He has requested a loan of 30,000 Kenyan shillings through Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. The extra income from this loan will enable him to pay school fees for his children and meet the basic needs of his family.
Kirui is 27 years old and married with two children, ages 1 and 3 years old.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
