She started up her business with a fund of $30, which came out of her own salary when she worked as a domestic for a family (in the city of Bukavu-South Kivu). She has run her business for 9 years. This new loan should serve to supply her with new merchandise (10 cases of Primus beer, 10 cases of Metzinger, 10 cases of sweetened Fanta and Coca-Cola). In addition, she aims to enlarge her enterprise, build a refreshment bar, buy means of transportation for her goods in the long run, educate her children, and spend the rest of her life in peace. This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
