Leonard is 24 years old and is single. Leonard currently works in a shop in Kanazi district. He takes care of two relatives who are between 8 and 25 years old. He runs a well-organized small store which sells various products, such as rice, sugar, soap, etc. He has been operating it successfully for three years, and his shop is open from 6am to 7pm every day.

Leonard is the leader of this group, called 'DUTERIMBERE' in the local language, which means "to be developed". The group consists of two men and eight woman.

The group has requested a loan from Kiva lenders, via Vision Finance Company, in order to purchase more products for their boutique so that they can provide better service to their customers. The loan will impact the group members by helping them to purchase larger quantities of stock, which will allow them to earn more profits. With the extra income they all earn, Leonard and his group hope to save some money and to reinvest in their businesses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
