This group is called Paloma (Dove). It is located in the state of México and consists of 13 members. Among them is Señora Maria del Carmen P. H., who is 35 years old. She has been married for 16 years and has 5 children, 2 girls and 3 boys, who are all in school. She sells natural foods and has been doing this for 6 years. She comments that she decided to begin her business because her husband's income many times wasn't enough to cover their necessities and those of their children. She had already applied for loans in the past and comments that with this new loan she will benefit a lot, since she can buy wholesale and thus obtain better prices, increasing her earnings.

Her dream is that some day she can set up a shop where she can sell her products and have at least two employees from the her community. Señora Maria del Carmen wants to be able to give her children careers, since she was not able to finish her schooling because she married very young and had to help her parents with the household economics. She did this with great pleasure, but she wants a better future for her children. She joined with the other members of the group and formed a soccer team in their district, and they have represented their town with dignity for several years, which brought them great personal satisfaction.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
