Consuelo is part of the “Rumbo al Exito” Group, composed of 8 members, all of whom live in the port of Callao. It has been very useful to her to be part of the group because she has learned how to save and advance her business. She has always worked with her sisters preparing diverse dishes to sell, like stuffed potatoes, tamales, etc. Her main customers are the workers of the area where she lives. Then on Sundays she prepares ceviche (a typical Peruvian plate) and her neighbors are her major consumers.

By working to sell her meals, she manages to help her husband meet family expenses. Her contribution is a relief for both of them because in this manner, they can try to provide the best for their children.

At present, Consuelo is searching for a place where she can relocate her meals business. This is something that she wants to achieve very soon. The present loan will be a great help and she will use it to buy new kitchen utensils. The ones she has now have deteriorated with time. The loan will help her to offer better service to her customers.

In the picture above, Consuelo is wearing the black polo shirt.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
