Jocelyn A. lives in the village of Dinas, Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental. She is 34 years old, married and has three school-aged children. For the last two years, she has made a living by providing transportation services and earns about 3,000 PHP a month from her work.
In 2007, Jocelyn joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her life and ability to engage in business. She has successfully repaid four previous loans from GDMPC and is applying for a new one, for 15,000 PHP, to buy tires and other accessories. She plans to use the additional revenue generated by this loan to continue expanding her business.
GDMPC is one of the most progressive cooperatives in Mindanao, Philippines. It has four branches and three unit offices covering the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. Its membership is composed mostly of farmers, fishermen and woman, and small entrepreneurs.
