Sara has a mixed farm in Kitale town, western Kenya that produces milk and eggs which are sold locally. She mainly depends on the income from her farm to cater for the basic needs of her family.
She recently repaid a previous loan of 61,200Kes from Juhudi Kilimo and has requested another loan of 61,200Kes to purchase and maintain a dairy cow. She says that with the dairy cow she will acquire, her family will be guaranteed enough milk for domestic consumption and sale.
Sara is 44 years old and married with 4 children whose ages range between 7 and 20. Three of the children attend school.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
