Safia's Group
In this Group: Safia, Rani, Shameem Akhter, Ayesha, Zarina
Safia is 47 years old and has given birth to three sons and a daughter. They live in a small city called KasU., which is located in Punjab, Pakistan, and is famous for its leather industry. Her elder son has a transport business and her daughter is a school teacher. Her other children are getting their education by going to school. She is married to M. Y. who operates a grocery store in the market. He sells daily use items like oil, sugar, spices, rice, etc. He is known among his clients for his fair dealing and the quality of his products.

Safia also supports her family selling thread. She supplies thread at reasonable rates to different thread sellers at the markets. She is also a very good mother and wife. She performs her household responsibilities very well.

Safia has applied for a loan from Kiva's partner, Asasah, to help her husband expand his grocery store business. With this loan, he will buy groceries in bulk to put in his store to sell. Safia is hopeful that through the loan investment her husband will be able to increase his income and make his business more profitable. She is a new loan user of Asasah and this is her first loan application.

In the photo, the lady with a book (an Asasah passbook) is Safia.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
