The Banc Villageois of TOUBA DABAYE was created on December 28, 2010. It has just received its first financing with CAURIE-MF and is comprised of 36 women from the same village. They are united by sturdy ties of solidarity.

Ms. PENDA N. (standing at the far right in the photo) is the leader of the Banc Villageois. She is 26 years old, married, and the mother of four children to support. She also has one of her nieces in her care.

Ms. N. embroiders bed sheets. Having worked at it for several years, she is mastering this business nicely. As a peasant, she is a farmer as well. Her first loan with CAURIE-MF will enable her to buy cloth and some supplies for embroidery in order to expand her business.

Her goal is to support her husband in supporting the family, to help cover schooling costs, and to bolster her savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
