Juster, 76, is a widowed mother of 11 grown children. She is a farmer from the town of Murang'a in central Kenya. She has been practicing mixed farming for over 40 years and employs one farmhand. She sells her milk through Kenya Cooperative Creameries and coffee through a local society.
She has requested this loan of 50,000 KES through Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a chuff cutter to chop hay. She says that this will help save time and reduce the wastage of fodder thus saving money. She hopes to increase her milk production from the current 20 to 50 litres in the future.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
