Som K. is a 31-year-old married woman and mother. She lives in her own small family home in Kompong Tom province. Som K. owns a piece of land that she inherited from her grandmother. She can grow rice crops in both rainy and dry seasons. Presently, Som K. is growing a rice crop for the dry season field, but it is not growing well. Therefore, Som K. would like a loan to purchase many sacks of fertilizer for her crop.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
