Maribel is part of the communal bank, “Confiando en Ti,” in the city of Chillán. She rents a kiosk, close to the center of the city, from which she has sold newspapers and candies for 4 months. Her hours of work are Monday to Saturday from 8:30 to 5:30. Before renting the kiosk, she would sell home items from the streets.

Maribel forma parte del banco comunal “Confiando en Ti”, perteneciente a la ciudad Chillán. Ella arrienda un kiosco, cerca del centro de la ciudad, en donde vende diarios y confites desde hace 4 meses. Sus horarios de trabajo son de lunes a sábado, de 8:30 hrs. A 17:30 hrs. Antes del arrendar el kiosco, vendía artículos de hogar de manera ambulante.
Con este préstamo comprará mercadería, es decir, diarios y confites.
Vive con su esposo y sus 2 hijos, de 14 y 4 años.
Su sueño es tener un kiosco propio.
A Maribel le han servido mucho los préstamos de Fondo Esperanza, para mantener su negocio. También está muy agradecida ya que, debido al terremoto del pasado 27 de febrero perdió su casa y su negocio, y por medio de Fondo Esperanza obtuvo una mediagua, en donde ha hecho ampliaciones y vive todavía.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.
