Lucy is a farmer from Murang'a town in central Kenya. She has been farming for 13 years and employs one farmhand. Her mixed farm produces maize, beans and eggs, which she sells to the local market.
She has requested this loan of 50,000 KES through Juhudi Kilimo to expand her poultry farming. The extra income from this loan will help improve the livelihood of her family. Her biggest challenge in farming has been diseases, which affects her production. She currently has 12 layers and intends to improve in the future by acquiring at least 3,000 layers.
Lucy is 32 years old and married with three school-aged children who all attend school.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
