Teriya Group

The women of the group Teriya are all married and average 38 years of age and three children living in traditional extended families in Barouéli City, Barouéli prefecture, Region of Ségou (4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The group members know one another through ties of kinship, and they do commerce in perfumes, condiments, incense, and clothing. The group members are now on their sixth solidarity loan, which will be used to buy perfumes, condiments, cloth, and the ingredients for making incense.  

Ms. BINTOU C. intends to use her loan for buying a sack of incense seeds (magnonkissèni) and a few bottles of perfume from Barouéli retailers. After the final product is made, it is sold in cash or credit transactions to a customer base composed of women and men.  

She envisions making an average monthly profit of 30,000 francs CFA that will be used to cover the loan payments and to meet expenses related to healthcare, food, and schooling. The rest will be reinvested in her business.

Les femmes du groupe Teriya, toutes mariées, ont en moyenne 38 ans, 3 enfants et vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles élargies dans la ville de Barouéli, préfecture de Barouéli ; Région de Ségou (quatrième région administrative de la république du Mali).
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de parenté et font le commerce de parfums, de condiments, de l’encens et des habits.
Les femmes du groupe Teriya sont à leur sixième prêt solidaire qui sera utilisé pour acheter, des parfums, des condiments, des tissus et des ingrédients pour la fabrication de l’encens.
BINTOU C. compte acheter avec ce prêt, 1 sac de graine d’encens (magnonkissèni) et quelques bouteilles de parfums auprès des revendeurs de Barouéli. Après préparation le produit final est vendu au comptant et à crédit, à une clientèle composée de femmes et d’hommes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice moyen mensuel de 30 000F CFA qui sera utilisé pour payer les échéances du prêt, prendre en charge les dépenses relatives à la santé, à la nourriture, aux frais scolaires et le reste sera réinvesti dans les activités.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
