Ana María
The 3 de Mayo Communal Bank meets every two weeks in the Picoaza parish in the city of Portoviejo. This place is known for being a very commercial area, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo fiestas, and for its happy people.

This is where we find 54 year old Ana. She is separated, but she had three children from this relationship. All of the children are adults. She lives with an 11 year old grandson, who is in his first year of middle school.

She sells cases and accessories for cell phones. She works every day from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., which is the time she has to feed her grandson. In the afternoons she washes other people’s clothes in order to get some extra money. According to what she tells us, life is very difficult – it is only through work that you will get ahead. She goes to Guayaquil to buy her products.

This loan is to buy telephone cases and accessories. She has been in the communal bank for ten years. She likes it for the help that she gets through the loans. Her dream is to have her house made of cement because the one she has is made from cane.
