Si S. is a 28-year-old woman who lives in the province of Kompong Cham. She is a married woman and blessed with three children. Most of them are students in the local public school. Si S. has a life partner in her husband who is a local farmer. Si S. has built a pigpen behind her house where she raises many pigs to earn a living. Because the pig-raising business is a very profitable one for Si S. and her family, Si S. has requested a loan in order to buy additional feed and piglets to feed for sale during the period when pork is commanding the highest price.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
