The Santa Maria Women's Committee was set up on July 10th, 2008. With a lot of hard work and care, they are now in their 9th loan cycle, working supportively together within the program. As well as working independently, the group's members also work to make funds so that the group itself has some capital and they help each other to achieve their goals, their main goal being to work to support their families.

Angela C.'s is a very moving story. She is a lady who is in a wheelchair and whose business is crocheting. When she started working with Fundación Paraguaya she didn't have a wheelchair and she couldn't leave her house because of her disability. Thanks to her loan and her fellow committee members she was able to greatly improve her business and her running of it.

Angela tells us that thanks to her loan she was able to improve her family's finances. They currently have not only the income from her work but also an income made as a comedian on the radio.

Angela is requesting this loan to buy candy and cell phone credits because she would like to carry out other business activities as well as her crocheting. Angela says that the activities that the women do with Fundación Paraguaya are very important since they have helped them to develop their working capacity and also lifted their self-esteem as working mothers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
