Mujeres Unidas Group
In this Group: Denis , Rosa Elvira , Nelly Marisol , Rosa , Angelina , Leonarda
This group is called “Mujeres Unidas” (United Women). They tell us that this is because during harvest time all the women go to their fields to pick lemons together. It is located in the community of Paso Rincón, San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec, in the state of Oaxaca. It has 6 members who know each other because they all live in the same town and pick lemons together. This is their 2nd loan with Fundación Realidad.

The group representative is Leonarda P. F., 66. She only finished first grade. She has a daughter, Rosa, who is already married. Doña “Leo,” as she’s known in her community has a small corn mill that all the women in her community come to use to grind corn to make tortillas and a small plot of land that she grows lemons on. She needs the loan to buy fertilizers and manure for her crops. She also needs a few sacks of corn to sell at the mill.

Doña “Leo” wakes up every day at 5am to open the mill and grind corn for her customers. The mill is located in her house. She hopes in the future to buy a new mill because the one she has breaks down sometimes. Leonarda is a very cheerful woman who very much wants to work.

Mrs. Angelina P. O., 67, is another member of the Mujeres Unidas group. She only got to third grade. Angelina lives just with her 10 year old grandson who is in fifth grade. She is a lemon farmer and needs the loan to buy fertilizers and manure for her crops.

Doña “Gela,” as she’s called by her friends, tells us that December is the month when profits from the lemons are highest because lemons are scarce then due to the cold. Her farm plot is 200 meters from her house. She hopes that her grandson will be able to go to the university in the future to become a great engineer.

The other four members are: Rosa Elvira M. P., Nelly Marisol M. A., Rosa Ramírez P. who are all lemon farmers and need the loan to buy fertilizers and manure and Denis Carvajal Martínez who sells perfume via catalogue door to door and needs the loan to buy perfumes.
