Jose is forty-six years old. He shares his home with his partner and their three children. They live in the small village of Collique Bajo, which is located in the district of Zaña and is approximately forty minutes outside of the city of Chiclayo. It occupies a river valley, and through complicated irrigation systems and a relatively high water table, the population is able to plant a wide variety of crops including rice, corn and sugar cane.
Jose raises cattle in corrals near his home. He raises both dairy cows and cattle for their meat. He has been involved in the business for over ten years. In addition to cattle, Jose has a small plot of land on which he plants and raises crops. Depending on the season and the crop rotation, he can be found planting any number of common crops in the area, including corn, rice, beans and vegetables.
The planned use of the loan is to purchase additional feed for the cattle and fertilizer for his crops. He wants to invest additional funds in his current products in order to increase his income over the coming months and improve his family’s lifestyle. He dreams of making improvements to his home and providing his children with education.
