Santos is thirty-eight years old. She lives in the district of Tambogrande in the province of Piura in northern Peru. It is a semi-tropical zone which is very productive in fruits and feed for animals. Many residents have small fruit plantations or raise animals near their homes. Santos lives in her family’s home, along with her parents, her husband and their young child.
Santos raises sheep and goats in the yard behind their home. She currently has eleven sheep and fourteen goats. She raises these animals on local farm products or by-products from local rice and corn mills. She cares for the animals until they reach the appropriate size to be sold in local markets or to neighbors. Her husband works as a farm laborer on local properties. Santos’s father owns a small property on which he raises crops.
This will be Santo’s first loan with Edpyme Alternativa. She plans to use the funds to purchase additional feed and expand her herd. She hopes that the increased capital will allow her to continue to grow her business and improve the income prospects of her family. She dreams of making various improvements to the family home and providing her child with the opportunity to attend school.
