María Cristina will use this loan to buy perfume. Her goal is to double her income so that she can grow in her business. She lives with her husband and her only child, an 8 year-old daughter.

María Cristina has found this loan from Fondo Esperanza to be very useful in helping her continue with her business. She is also happy with the trust and solidarity which the group members have shared during their group meetings together with their advisor.

Villarrica is a city in southern Chile which is located in La Araucanía region. It is a small city but has every basic service and tourist service as it is one of the main service centers of the Andean region and the main tourist center of the region, together with Pucón. During the summer months, there are many cultural, artistic and sporting activities and events. There is also a lot of ecotourism, adventure tourism and ethnotourism.

El banco comunal “Quimey” se conforma por 20 emprendedores, pertenecientes a la ciudad de Villarrica.
María Cristina es la secretaria de este grupo y en la foto se encuentra en la última fila, en 3º lugar de izquierda a derecha. Ella se dedica a la venta de perfumes y carteras, a domicilio y en su casa, desde hace 2 meses. Antes de este negocio trabajaba como cajera en una empresa de buses.
Con este préstamo comprará perfumes. Su meta es aumentar sus ingresos al doble, para ir creciendo en su negocio. Vive con su marido y su única hija de 8 años.
A María Cristina le ha servido mucho este préstamo de Fondo Esperanza, para continuar con su negocio. Además se ha sentido muy bien con los temas de confianza y solidaridad que han compartido durante las reuniones de grupo junto a su asesora.
Villarrica es una ciudad al sur de Chile, ubicada en la región de La Araucanía. Es una ciudad pequeña, pero cuenta con todos los servicios básicos y turísticos, siendo uno de los principales centros de servicios D. área cordillerana y principal centro turístico de la región, junto con Pucón. Durante los meses de verano se realizan numerosas actividades y eventos culturales, artísticos y deportivos, Además de las innumerables alternativas de Ecoturismo, Turismo Aventura y Etnoturismo.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
