Prum C. is 40 years old and is a resident of Kompong Chhnang Province. To earn a daily income, Prum C. works as a police officer in his community, and has a proper salary every month. He has a life partner in his wife, who is a fish seller in the busy market. The couple has three children, all of whom are single. Because fish selling is the main way for his family to earn money, Prum C.’s wife wants to expand her business to a bigger size than it is at present in order to earn more profits. For this reason, Prum C. is applying for a loan for his wife to purchase more fresh fish for resale.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
