Evaline is married with one child and is a resident of Kitale Town in Western Kenya. For five years, she has been practicing mixed farming. Evaline produces eggs, tomatoes, and vegetables that are sold locally.
Evaline has applied for a loan of 30,000 KES to purchase poultry. This will be her second loan with Juhudi Kilimo. Evaline says her family will have eggs for consumption and will earn income from selling eggs. Her challenges include food shortages and poultry disease. In the future, Evaline is focusing on expanding her poultry farm to one thousand hens to be the major supplier of eggs in her local market.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
About Juhudi Kilimo:
Juhudi Kilimo is a for-profit social enterprise working with small-holder farmers in Kenya to finance purchases of dairy cows, chickens, agricultural equipment, and other assets that create immediate cash flow. Many of the assets are insured to prevent devastating business losses, and targeted technical assistance is provided to farmers, from agricultural training to basic book keeping and local market research.
