Cecilia K. is a resident of Kisii Town in Western Nyanza. She is a mother of two children, aged 18 and 12, and has been doing mixed farming for more than 20 years, producing maize, milk, beans and vegetables and selling them locally. She has two farmhands. She earns additional income from supplying stationery to local secondary schools.
She has requested a loan of 60000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. This is her third loan request after the first and second of 40000 KES each. The loan is for the purchase of a dairy cow. She believes the income generated will be enough to educate her children and acquire property to provide additional security.
Her continuing challenges are bad debtors and poor roads.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
