This group is called 'Arcoiris de Huitel' (Huitel Rainbow) because its members believe that rainbows bring good luck and also because a rainbow has no beginning and no end and that is how they think of their businesses and, above all, their friendship.

This group is located in the city of Tula de Allende Hidalgo. Mrs Maria Margarita P. is the group's president. She is 55 years old and studied up to the third year of elementary school. She has four children who are already married. Maria sells hand-made tortillas which she cooks in a 'comal' (a flat earthenware pan). She has had this business for eight years. Maria is known in the community and for this reason her tortillas sell very well. She serves her customers with attention and kindness. She would like this loan to buy corn so that she can make better quality tortillas and also enjoy a better quality of life.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
