Soneida is one of the members of the En Dios Confiamos (In God We Trust) 3 Group, located in the city of San Pedro de Macoris, where the primary economic activities are commerce, a tax-free area, industrial cement plants, and household and cosmetic products. This city, like many others in the Dominican Republic, has a shortage of drinking water and electricity and is populated by Dominicans and Haitian immigrants. Soneida sells miscellaneous products in her business, such as: clothing, shoes, cosmetics, accessories, etc. With this new loan, she is planning to invest in more of these products, since during this time of the year there is a lot of demand for the items she sells. Soneida is very excited to receive her sixth loan from Esperanza International, after having successfully repaid her previous loans and thus having taken a step towards expanding her business.

She tells us that her greatest challenge has always been to have economic stability and fulfill all of her needs. She enjoys working hard, just as she enjoys relaxing in her free time. She is planning to reinvest her profits in her business, since there will be a lot of demand for her products. Her dream is to have a well-established, smooth-running business.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
