Nyakwara is 76 years old, married, and the father of fourteen, aged between 5 and 62 years, with three attending school. He has been a mixed farmer for fifty years and sells maize, beans, bananas, coffee and milk locally.
He has requested a loan of Kshs. 45,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a dairy cow. Extra income from this loan will assist him in paying school fees for the children. In five years he aspires to have a posho (cornmeal) mill.
The challenge he is facing is lack of enough capital to purchase farming inputs like fertilizers hence affecting crop production. He is thankful to Juhudi and promises to continue to fight against poverty.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
