Mrs. Khanthy A. married in 1979 and has four children, three sons and one daughter. She began her farming after she got married. In addition, she is also weaving silk at home since 1980. Her husband plants vegetables and food crops in their farm. Her daughter is working in a garment factory. One of her sons is an air conditioner repairman and the youngest son is studying at university in Phnom Penh. Khanthy’s family live on an island called Koh Uk Nhatey along the Mekong River. This location provides a lot of opportunity to the people who live in this commune, including Khanthy’s family, for doing farming and also fishing.

Khanthy has borrowed money from MAXIMA twice; she is presently asking for a loan in the amount of US$ 500. She will use this loan to purchase seeds for about $250 and the other $250 will be used to rent more land for expanding their vegetable garden.
