The village loan consists of nine people, located in Vihear village in Kandal province. This village selected Mrs. Lat S., a 50-year-old married woman, as the village bank president. With the loans, they hope to increase their income to improve their family's living situation.

Mrs. Lat S. is a farmer who owns a plot of rice field to cultivate for a living. Her husband, Mr. Muong Mut, 49, works as a fisherman. His fishing business needs some supplies, but they lack the money to buy them. So Mrs. Lat S. would like to use a loan to buy fishnets for her husband's fishing business.

They have four children: two are seamstresses in the garment factory, and two are students in the local school and also help in their parents’ businesses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
