Eulalia is one of the members of the “L. Familia Renacer 3 y 4” (To Be Reborn Family 3 & 4) group which has 10 micro businesswomen. They are involved in clothing sales, natural products sales, shoe sales, food sales, etc. Eulalia’s family is maD. up of herself, her husband and three children. She tells us that her greatest challenge is finishing the front part of her house which she started building but hasn’t been able to finish yet. She loves to sing and dance in her free time and also to play board games at home with her girl friends.

Eulalia is very excited to receive her fifth loan from Esperanza Internacional having satisfactorily repaid her previous loan and taken an important step in her business’ growth.

She has had her business for about 5 years; she started it with a little money her husband gave her to start. She is planning on investing the new loan in her business, which is good quality used clothing sales. She will buy three bundles of clothes to resell by the piece.

She will use profits to buy a new refrigerator, for savings and to repair her house. Her dream is to have an established clothing store.

She lives in the city of S. which is the country’s second largest. Its economy depends on agriculture, cattle-raising and tobacco farming, among others. It also has a sizeable population of Dominicans and Haitian immigrants who live in communities of very limited resources.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
