This photo was taken in Belen's bakery. She is a member of the “Estrellas de Tilapa” (Stars of Tilapa) group which is located in the town of San José Tilapa, Puebla, Mexico. In this photo you can see the 'pan de muerto' (bread of the dead) which is traditional for this season and which Belen makes with a lot of effort and dedication. She started her bakery business 20 years ago. She is requesting this loan to buy ingredients. Her customers prefer to buy their bread from her because it is hand made unlike that sold in other bakeries. Doña Belen's bread is considered some of the best in the region. She is currently feeling happy with this new loan. She is 43 years old, studied at secondary level, is married and has two children who are already married and no longer live with her. She hopes to sell her bread in more places and hopes to open another store in the not-so-distant future. The group has 9 members altogether.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
